Vignola Organic Farm operates in the municipality of Grassano (MT), in the heart of Basilicata, within a rural setting of high environmental, historical, and cultural value, recognized by the National Observatory of Rural Landscapes of MASAF as “I Giardini di Grassano”. The farm represents a virtuous example of the integration of landscape protection, local identity, and sustainable innovation. Active according to organic farming principles since 1995 and certified by ICEA, the farm is currently managed by Giuseppe Vignola, who has chosen to invest in the area through a family-based entrepreneurial model founded on quality, traceability, and respect for the environment.
With a UAA (Utilized Agricultural Area) of approximately 30 hectares, the farm’s production is diversified and includes cereal crops, olive groves, and vegetables, managed according to agroecological criteria, with low-impact techniques, crop rotations, and biodiversity enhancement. A key focus is the recovery of traditional agricultural varieties, such as Senatore Cappelli wheat and black chickpeas, which are processed directly on the farm in a short supply chain and zero-kilometer perspective.
Alongside primary production, the farm carries out artisanal processing and embodies the concept of multifunctional agriculture through an educational farm and a social farm, promoting inclusion, environmental education, and food awareness.
Strongly connected to local and national networks, the farm contributes to sustainable rural development through direct sales, participation in promotional events, and the adoption of technological and energy innovations. Vignola Organic Farm thus stands as a replicable best practice, capable of addressing the environmental, economic, and social challenges of contemporary agriculture.
