Corona M&D, located in Tricarico in the heart of the Matera hills, has roots in a family history dating back to 1921, with the cultivation of olives, cereals, vegetables, and legumes. The company is distinguished by its strong connection to the local area and its commitment to sustainable and organic agriculture. The farm underwent a process of renewal thanks to the innovative vision of Giuseppina and her son Paolo Montesano, a young entrepreneur, transitioning to organic farming in 2016, also supported by rural development funds. It has modernized its facilities and improved production quality while maintaining a short, controlled supply chain, except for the flour, which is processed by a local mill.
On 120 hectares, Corona M&D cultivates durum wheat, lentils, chickpeas, vetch, and olive trees. It produces artisanal pasta, Altamura PGI Lentils, organic extra virgin olive oil, white chickpeas, and preserves, enhancing local resources with a focus on sustainability and authenticity. The company is committed to valorizing local resources and traditional knowledge while remaining innovation-focused, actively participating in research projects aimed at improving organic agricultural systems from agronomic, ecological, economic, and social perspectives, and developing digital agriculture infrastructure.
Active in its area and engaged in the development of the community in which it operates, Corona M&D promotes local networks, participates in markets such as TERRAMATERA, and looks to the future with educational and social farm projects, emphasizing environmental education and inclusion. The company follows agroecological principles, combining tradition, biodiversity, and environmentally friendly farming practices, such as crop rotation and the use of natural fertilizers. Corona M&D positions itself as a model of sustainable agriculture, capable of protecting the territory and offering high-quality products while respecting future generations.
