The Lancellotti Armando Farm is located in the municipality of Maschito, in the province of Potenza, in a rural area of the Lucanian inland characterized by traditional agriculture and by typical socio-economic fragilities of inner areas, such as depopulation and an aging population. In this context, the farm plays a significant role not only from a productive perspective, but also from an environmental and social one, contributing to territorial stewardship and the preservation of the rural landscape.
A third-generation agricultural enterprise, the farm experienced a phase of renewal with the establishment of Armando Lancellotti in 2016, supported by Measure 6.1 “Incentives for the establishment of new farms by young farmers” under the Basilicata RDP 2014/2020. The generational transition fostered investments in modern machinery, improved production organization, and the adoption of management practices oriented toward sustainability and the principles of organic farming and agroecology.
The farm covers approximately 160 hectares of utilised agricultural area (UAA) and is entirely managed under certified organic farming. Production is mainly cereal-based, with wheat as the main crop, alongside chickpeas, peas, and barley, managed through crop rotations aimed at maintaining soil fertility and reducing external inputs. These activities are complemented by an 11-hectare organic olive grove, vegetable crops, orchards, and extensive sheep farming, strongly integrated with the farm’s cropping system. The use of organic fertilizers, the recycling of crop residues, and the adoption of precision farming practices contribute to the efficient use of natural resources.
Integrated into the local economic fabric through relationships with wholesalers and cooperatives, the Lancellotti Armando Farm represents a model of sustainable organic agriculture that, through the integration of tradition and innovation, contributes to rural development, landscape conservation, and the resilience of inner areas in Basilicata.
