The farm, managed by Teresa Bernardo, is located in a mountainous area at the foothills of the Lucanian Apennines, in Colobraro, in the province of Matera. The farm covers a total agricultural area of 76 hectares, where it practices extensive cattle farming and cultivates cereals, forage crops, vegetables, and orchards. Its products are sold through short supply chains, mainly directly on the farm and at local farmers’ markets. Forage is used to meet the farm’s internal needs, while cereals are marketed through a wholesaler. The farm also produces processed products, which are sold via e-commerce.

Local genetic material is used for vegetables and legumes (chickpeas and grass peas), cultivated in intercropping. Hedges, wooded areas, and shrubs are maintained within the arable fields. The farm enhances its products through organic certification, the Mountain Product label for baked goods and vegetables, and membership in Slow Food for the “Pera Signora” pear and processed products.

The farm’s engagement with the local territory is expressed through outreach activities and participation in projects and initiatives related to biodiversity and landscape, including participation in the national network for agricultural and food biodiversity and the network of custodian farmers, collaborations on projects with the University of Basilicata, and partnerships with associations and local authorities to promote awareness and knowledge about the protection of the region’s agri-food and gastronomic heritage.
