The meeting “Agroecology and Public Policy” took place on March 24 in Altamura, structured around a series of technical presentations and moments of operational discussion.
The event was opened by Lucia Briamonte and Michele Perniola, who outlined its objectives, focusing on strengthening the dialogue between research and agricultural policies.
The role of consortia was addressed by Giuseppe Giordano, with a focus on the connections between protection instruments and public policies. This was followed by Gerardo Centoducati, who presented the experience of the Altamura Lentil PGI Consortium as a concrete example of territorial valorization. Finally, Tonia Di Leo shared the experience of the Murge and Bradano Agroecological District as a model of food governance.
The discussion then moved to new opportunities for the sector: Ilaria Falconi illustrated the link between agroecology and carbon markets, while Giuseppe Carlucci highlighted the need to recognize and enhance ecosystem services. Along these lines, Davide Longhitano explored the concept of the “invisible value” of agrosystems, with particular attention to cultural services.
The event concluded with a policy lab led by Maria Assunta D’Oronzio, which engaged participants in a reflection on sectoral policies, emphasizing the need to rethink them from an agroecological perspective.
